In 2009, Simon Blais joined the Pyrotech BEI multidisciplinary team as a forensic engineer specializing in the causes and extent of damage affecting buildings and structures of all kinds.
In 2000, he obtained a Civil Engineering degree from Université Laval in Quebec. The following year, he obtained a comprehensive study diploma in Materials and Structures (DEA-MAISE) from École normale supérieure de Cachan in France. In 2010, he also completed a Master's degree in Repair of Concrete Structures at Université Laval.
At Pyrotech BEI, Simon investigates fire sites and prepares expert reports, provides training and writes technical articles for insurance adjusters. Simon is recognized as an expert witness in Court and has over 15 years of experience as an engineer. He has participated in many advanced training seminars. He has conducted over 450 investigations. He is director of the civil division since May 2016.
Previously, Simon worked in construction quality control and in the auscultation of structures showing deficiencies. He was a teacher at Cégep de Limoilou in the Technology Program of Civil Engineering, giving courses on concrete, asphalt, geotechnics and the design of steel structures.
In his spare time, Simon enjoys mountain hiking and running. In addition, he takes on various renovation and house transformation projects.
