Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering

Simon Blais joined Pyrotech BEI in 2009 as a forensic expert (civil engineer). A member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec, he holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Université Laval, obtained in 2000, a diploma of advanced studies in materials and structures (DEA-MAISE) from École normale supérieure de Cachan in France, obtained in 2001, and a master’s degree in concrete structural repairs from Université Laval, obtained in 2010.

Director of the civil engineering department, Simon also conducts investigations pertaining to the causes and extent of damage affecting various types of buildings and structures. He delivers professional training and authors technical articles for insurance adjusters. Simon is also recognized as an expert witness in court and has over 15 years of experience as an engineer.

His previous experience includes construction quality control and the assessment of structures showing deficiencies. He was also a teacher at the Cégep de Limoilou in Québec City, in the Civil Engineering Technology Program, where he taught courses in concrete materials, asphalt concrete, geotechnics, and steel structure design.

In his spare time, Simon enjoys mountain hiking and running. He is also involved in residential renovation and remodeling projects.
