Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
Alexandre Wakim joined Pyrotech BEI as an engineer. He holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Concordia University, as well as an Attestation of College Studies (AEC) in residential building inspection from Vanier College.
Alexandre began his career in condominium asset management and structural engineering for condominium buildings. He conducted visual building inspections and participated in assessing the condition of structural, architectural, and electromechanical components. These mandates also included reserve fund analyses and the evaluation of the long-term performance of building components in relation to their maintenance and replacement.
He has also contributed to residential renovation projects involving structural modifications, including the removal of load-bearing elements and the enlargement of openings. In this context, he was called upon to investigate defects such as cracking, floor deformation, settlement, and various issues affecting masonry walls.
Subsequently, Alexandre gained experience in structural design and construction supervision. He participated in the design of wood, steel, and concrete structures, including temporary works used during construction. He also contributed to the rehabilitation and structural reinforcement of a multi-storey building by conducting site observations, monitoring non-conformities, and documenting the work performed.
His experience also includes participation in large-scale infrastructure projects in the sports and public transportation sectors. In these projects, he was involved in various aspects of temporary works, including their installation and compliance with plans, technical requirements, and site conditions.
Overall, these diverse professional experiences have provided him with a practical understanding of structural behaviour, construction site constraints, and the conditions that may affect the performance of buildings and temporary structures.
In his role at Pyrotech BEI, Alexandre is involved in technical analysis and forensic engineering mandates related to damage, losses, and a wide range of issues affecting different types of buildings and civil engineering structures. His areas of practice include:
- Structural issues affecting buildings;
- Temporary works and their compliance;
- Deficiencies, latent defects, and construction defects affecting various types of buildings.
Alexandre adopts a collaborative approach with various stakeholders to develop a thorough understanding of each situation and to establish his findings. His curiosity and adaptability enable him to take on a wide variety of mandates.
In his spare time, he enjoys working out, snowboarding in the winter, and hiking.
