Michel Gauthier co-founded Pyrotech BEI alongside the current president, Michael Rowen. After playing a key role in the company’s founding and development until 2009, he pursued other projects before returning in 2019 as a forensic expert, bringing with him extensive experience and expertise. Member of the Ordre des technologues professionnels du Québec, electrical engineering division, he holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and has his provincial competency card in gas appliance technology, class 1.
Within the electrical engineering department, Michel conducts investigations pertaining to the origin and cause of fires, explosions, and electrical failures. To this day, he has accumulated more than 4,000 investigations on residential, commercial, and industrial fire scenes. His areas of expertise also include combustion appliances (oil, wood, gas), fire propagation and standardization of electrical equipment and installations. For 29 years, he sat on the Provincial Advisory Committee of the Quebec Construction Code, Chapter V – Electricity (commonly known as the Electrical Code) and for eight years on the Provincial Advisory Committee of the Quebec Construction Code, Chapter II – Gas. He also worked for ten years for the Canadian Standards Association (CSA).
In his spare time, Michel maintains good physical fitness. He notably won the Quebec Cup Duathlon Championship in 2012 and 2017 (age groups 50–59 and 60–69) with Triathlon Québec and competed in the ITU World Championships in 2009 and 2013 as a Canadian athlete with Triathlon Canada.
